Does every prospective city get its own thread?

The huge population can't hide that this is a bad sports town.

What's wrong with Winnipeg? I realize it's considerably smaller than Pittsburgh, but hockey is king in Canada. Why not right an old wrong by bringing hockey back to central Canada?

Doesn't anybody here recognize negotiating when they see it?
Unless Pittsburgh totally screws this up, which it won't, the Penguins will be moving about 100 yards up the street to a new arena. The amount they are required to contribute to that new arena will be reduced from the current amount, or else some sort of gimmicky financing will be cooked up so that it really doesn't cost as much out of pocket as originally suggested.
The Penguins are averaging more than 15,600 fans a game -- in an arena that seats 17,000 and change. They will not be moving.

Winnipeg's arena has no luxury boxes, which no pro stadium can do without these days.

Kansas City's new arena could use a hockey team.

Whalers averaged 87% capacity in 1996-97. Didn't stop Dickhead Karmanos from moving the team.

You know what? I checked on that, and it's not true. The MTS Centre in Winnipeg has 48 luxury boxes -- 46 of them are classified as "private suites" and the other two are called "party suites." In total, they can accommodate more than 1,100 people. You must have gotten some bad information from somewhere.
