The Luxor is the pyramid-shaped one, and for the most part I liked it (Carrot Top was awesome!), but there were a couple of things that turned me off from wanting to go back. For one, the carpeted floor area near our room was next to the ice machine and each and every day we were there (four, mind you), it was soaken wet. I know it's a minor thing, but it still irks me. Room wise, I didn't like the slanted ceiling, i felt it made it really uncomfortable to walk around in. The view wasn't the greatest (we were staring at the pharoh's ass) and yes, I agree, the time-share people pissed me off. But, all in all, a good value for what we spent. ($467 each for air + hotel for four days).

As for NYNY, once you get past the casino level, it's a fantastic place to stay. The room I got was magnificant, the pool was unbelivable and it's location was perfect for a 4am run to Walgreens for an ice cream sandwich.

All in all, I'd say I enjoyed NYNY more than Luxor, and if I were going back anytime soon, that would be my preference.

I stayed there once for two nights. Can't remember what kind of room I had, but the whole experience was nothing more than mediocre. Casino is on the small side, service is nothing to rave about, choice of dining options is poor. Location is OK but not great; from there you can hit half a dozen other places with a 10-minute walk.

Having stayed at the Trop, I'd probably take Hooters. It's new, clean and just a notch better.

It won't be there, much longer . . . it's in the process of being taken over, and will be renovated/rethemed for about the fifth time in the last thirty years . ..

Those timeshare people are out of control everywhere on the Strip. I visited last month with my sister and they were all over us, thinking we were a young married couple (travel by yourself or with five buddies and you won't catch nearly as much trouble). We made it into a game, trying to come up with the best "thanks but no thanks" line or saying we just lost six months' mortgage at the tables, whatever. Otherwise we would have strangled someone.

I had fun nearly every time I walked by them. When I went with my girlfriend in January, we stood at the Luxor and they bugged us every time we walked by. The first couple times, I was nice and politely declined. It then got escalatingly worse.

The first attack mode was to embarass them. This included saying things like "Oh, I'd love to talk, but I have to go back to my hotel room to take a mean shit." and "Can I come back down later? Me and the misses' are thinking of having us a three-way with one of them there, what do ya'll call it, escorts?"

It later turned into placating and wasting their time. Once, we were passing through the NYNY and got bothered so we went to the stand and listened to their pitch and asked probably 20 questions, for about 15 minutes, before walking away.

All in all, it was fun. Of course, if you want to be less of a douche, you could just say you're a local and only here to gamble.

    Mikey,

My buddy is dating a hooters girl, maybe one of her friends is a huge Saved By The Bell fan. You two will hit it off, and she'll hook you up with a flight.

Last time I was there, I was chuckling at the Bobby Slayton "Pit Bull of Comedy" ads for Hooters at the airport. Then I saw the Pit Bull himself at a restaurant off the strip.

I've heard the casino's having financial troubles, shockingly. I stayed there when it was the San Remo, and it was nothing short of awesome. As in awesomely bad.

They had $2 blackjack, they let you bring your own beer to the table. we also brought a case into the casino "bar" and played drinking games, and had to wake up the guy at the sports book (which had a markerboard), who was sleeping. one of the old timers yelled, "wake up, you've got customers!"

    that was a fun time.

Never stayed in the garden rooms at the Trop, always in the main tower. The garden rooms look cheaper and the ones overlooking the back parking lot do not look secure, like somebody could jump the balcony rail, force open the sliding glass door, grab your stuff and be gone in a few seconds. I think the tower rooms at the Trop are just fine. One time we checked in and the lamp between the beds was broken and dangling from its wiring. We hailed the housekeeping woman, she called repair and the guy was there to fix it within 15 minutes.
At Hooters, the table limits on blackjack and Let It Ride were $10 on a wednesday evening when the casino was dead. And I just hate it when you go through $100 before your drink arrives and then it's a piss-poor drink. Never stayed there but the place is barely more than 2 years old and if they're redoing the rooms, what does that tell you.
We'll be at the Venetian next weekend. Anniversary trip so I wanted a nicer place for my wife.

I stayed at Harrah's last year and was pleased. Clean room, $5 blackjack tables and centrally located.
