Let's see if LSU deems him "ineligible" or not. If so, he's screwed.

LSU Grad Jere Longman rings in:

Mathieu received far greater publicity than any other CB in the SEC. This was based not on achievement but on his exotic look, cool nick name and on a sad and cynical marketing campaign created by the LSU Athletic Department. Initially Mathieu did not like the name but then decided he will be whatever anyone wants him to be to draw attention to himself.

    First off, who is Mathey?

And anyone who watched him play knows he wasn't all hype. He didn't show up against Alabama, particularly the second time, but the guy made game-changing plays against just about everyone else.

You can argue that Claiborne was a better pure corner. But Mathieu was legit.

Anyone who says otherwise is being a post-hype revisionist.

Oh, I got the LoLo Jones comparison. But there's already plenty of chatter out there that he wasn't as good as people said he was.

That hair dye should be ruled illegal. I guess it was.

From the Wright Thompson story on Meyer:

Another coach is on the phone, asking for advice about a player who got into trouble. Meyer gives his honest answer, a window into the murky, shifting world of big-time athletics, into how nobody emerges from the highest level of anything with every part of himself intact.

The first year at Bowling Green, Meyer tells him, he'd have cut his losses. His fifth year at Florida, when he needed to win every game, he'd have kept him on the team.

The caller asks about the Buckeyes. "I like it," Meyer says. "I don't know how good we're gonna be, but I like it. We've got one more week, and then we get on the ship to the beaches of Normandy."

Meyer's kids better cover up their ears and avoid going near stoves.
