Homes or Holmes? You be the judge

I grew up about the time the word(s) Holmes or Homes was coined as a term of endearment for one of the boys.

Every stinkin' white guy i knew growing up in the PNW used the word Holmes (referring to porn star John Holmes) and not Homes (slang for Homeboy).

Which was the correct usage in your neck of the woods?

I think the "L" has been lost.

Somewhere around the beginning of "The L Word."

 

I always thought it was "homes", as in short for "homeboy". Course, in the Dirty South, we use "bro" or "brah" instead.

Isn't "brah" more of a Hawaiian/surfer thing, whereas "bruh" (cue sportsbruh) is more of a Dirty South thing?

And up here it's "homes" as in "homeboy" or "homie."

 

Or, short for homeslice, if you old school.
