    The Video Producer/Reporter develops, coordinates and publishes all digital video assets on TheHockeyNews.com. Works with THN.com editor on other projects and assignments within the department while performing the following duties and responsibilities.


    * Performs day-to-day video management by editing, entering and optimizing content on THN.com.
    * Develops new content, features and programming for all the channels on THN.com
    * Serves as writer, producer, sportscaster and interviewer for segments for Web broadcast THN.com. (Examples include practice interviews, post-game locker room interviews, feature segments, video blogs and more).
    * Helps manage and moderate user-generated videos and comments on THN.com
    * Works with advertising department in developing plan to sell web commercials. Edits and uploads video commercials from potential advertisers.
    * Liaise with THN.com partners on video projects and freelance work.
    * Collaborates with department heads to define, implement and manage efficient procedures for video content life cycle, creation, approval, revisions and removal of content.
    * Stays current on new Web video technologies and industry trends: makes recommendations on ways to continually innovate.
    * Write, edit, and assist on developmental projects during throughout the season.
    * Serves as backup for posting/editing editorial web content to THN.com
    * Maintain the highest regard to creativity and up-to-date technology on websites.
    * Plan and prepare production of video shoots within established budgets.
    * Maintain up-to-date with the latest in visual trends, software, codecs, compression techniques.
    * Perform all tasks related to the lighting, sound coverage, and shooting.
    * Purchase expendables and rent specific equipment for custom shoots or events.
    * Hire any additional crew for added coverage of shoots or live events.
    * Prepare, set up, and operate any production equipment required for the lighting and dressing of a set or location.
    * Hire any additional crew for added coverage of shoots or live events.
    * Capture video from shoots and edit within established timelines. Treat video for any coloring and contrast needs. Clean, assemble, and mix the sound of audio for proper usage and compression for the web.
    * Ensure the transmission and archiving of video produced
    * Create original opening sequences tailored to each specific segment.
    * Work with royalty free music companies to provide licensed musical scores for each video.
    * Work with imaging companies in providing stills and or video imagery pertinent to specific shoots or individual brands.
    * Act as a project manager when assessing proposals and or quotes from outside companies providing video content.

    The ideal candidate would have experience editing, producing and as a camera operator in an interactive/online setting. Must have strong knowledge in video production techniques, video photography and digital non-linear editing. Candidates must be competent with camera equipment and edit systems on PC and Mac platforms. Must be reliable and organized with the ability to work under pressure. Must possess a thorough knowledge the NHL. Job requires own transportation and ability to travel within Toronto area. This is a position that requires a flexible schedule including nights, weekends and holidays.


    * Bachelor's degree from preferably in broadcast journalism, communications, video production or related field
    * Related experience and/or training
    * Prior broadcasting experience preferred.
    * A diploma/degree in broadcast TV / film production or equivalent time established at a professional level


    * In-depth knowledge of hockey.
    * Must be able to operate all peripheral equipment related to the execution of video shooting & editing including: HDV cameras, lighting, external hard drives, and audio mixing.
    * Proficient in Final Cut Studio 2, Adobe CS3 creative suite, After Effects, flash video-encoding software, FTP clients, and Windows/Mac OS X.
    * Hands on experience with video production, from concept to creation.
    * CMS experience is a plus.
    * Must be able to work unsupervised in a fast paced, deadline type environment.
    * Experience in an online / flash content environment
    * Proven ability to shoot and edit a wide range of content quickly and accurately with great attention to detail and principles, all with the THN’s specific audience in mind.
    * Outstanding visual understanding and editorial judgment – ability to discern what makes a web video that visual clicks and provides relevant content to its viewers
    * Proven ability to multitask and consistently meet demanding deadlines
    * Excellent time-management skills
