The weekly where I worked for 19 years closed last fall.
It had four Internet versions from around 1998 through 2014. Despite my warnings and suggestions, the first two were lost to the ether during the changeovers. When we went from No. 3 to No. 4, the third was maintained on an in-house server at the paper so we could access it.
Everything digital disappeared when the paper shut down last year.
The only physical remains are now 1) at the local library, 2) copies kept by the paper and stored somewhere, and 3) the copies I kept of each edition (which started as a quick and accessible morgue so I wouldn't have to go searching through the storage totes to find something) from when I arrived to when it closed.

Another problem is microfilm disintegrating. That especially happens if it is not in climate-control rooms.
