HIRING: MLB beat reporter - DKPittsburghSports.com

Discussion in 'Journalism Jobs' started by DK Pittsburgh Sports, Aug 9, 2017.

  1. At DKPittsburghSports.com, an independent online media company in Pittsburgh, we're seeking a full-time, competitively salaried beat reporter to cover the Pirates and Major League Baseball. We're fully credentialed, and we travel to all road games and all related MLB and Pirates events, as well as engaging in major enterprise. For this position, we're hoping to find someone with the aggressiveness to win the beat while also connecting with our readers both in coverage and personality in all our forms, written, TV, radio, etc.

Email resume directly to me at DK@DKPittsburghSports.com

Rick Pitino would be impressed at how quickly this hire was made.

Internal promotion, at least that's what I hear. He's getting raked a bit on the site for it, but mainly because they're losing another writer.

What do you think the salary is?

Not sure. She's already announced it, so it's out there... the new hire is Sara Civian, who had been doing some local college work for DK. Don't know how much baseball she's done, but it also shows DK's not afraid to take chances.

Filled so quickly that no one got to ask whether anyone has heard anything after an unreasonably short amount of time.

Al Haig thought he was president longer than this job was open.

For those who are interested or may have applied for this job, Sara Civian; the young woman who was hired internally for the job; was reassigned in October and left the company in November. She was featured prominently in a long feature about the site on Deadspin yesterday: https://deadspin.com/pittsburghs-cutting-edge-sports-site-is-a-meat-grinder-1821797940

Dejan announced that he has relinquished his editorial and business roles, which are being turned over to their newly-elevated EIC and his wife, respectively. I have never met any of them personally, but I have heard the stories two people featured off the record in this piece have told ... in total, 23 writers have left since the site launched in 2014, many of them after less than a year and without a new job in-hand. Just something for everyone to consider if they see openings here in the future.
