    I was laughing out loud and my curmudgeonly coworker who walked by my office just muttered, "Glad you have time to laugh. Some of us have work to do." Yikes. Tremendous letter, though.

    I subscribed to ESPN the Magazine when it first started. I read the first issue, thought, "I hope it gets better."

    It still isn't. I leafed through an issue at the dentist's last week. I was finished in five minutes, wishing it was I and not my daughter that was sitting in the chair.

    True, how about "failed to evolve from a promising idea"?

    The Mag's had some decent stories in the past, Tom Friend's piece on UAB football comes to mind. Can't think of too many lately.
