All you need to know: Notoriously pompous columnist. Notoriously hotheaded city councillor. Columnist gets frustrated, calls councillor a "fat fuck." Councillor's mortal council enemy, with whom he has temporarily allied, notices. Hilarity ensues.

That guy Ford is hilarious. "Yeah John, why'd you call me a fat fuck? Eh?" Swear that guy is tailor-made to be a sitcom character - he reminds me of that guy on the Belushi show, but funnier. "That's verbal assault John!"

  4. Ridiculous, Starman: I just posted that article a moment ago, then, post-posting, saw that you had posted it. Except I could've sworn I hadn't seen it when I first read your post. This confused me to no end...until I saw the "Last Edit" tag...which explained to me that you and I had posted the same Rob Ford article at just about the exact same time, 4:25 AM.

So there are 40 members of the Toronto City Council? And this guy thinks he's a man of the people because his family business can support him while still giving him time to coach football teams and be on the City Council?
Liked the article though - the line about "he's a guy who will stand on your doorstep in the rain" made it pretty clear why he's lasted as long as he has.

  6. If only this guy was American.
He is custom-made to be a GOP vice presidential candidate.

Yeesh. Don't know anything about the people involved -- but I do like Barber's columns. Pretty sad how he ran away, though.

Covered Toronto city council about 15 years ago when they were decided whether or not to give some public land to the Raptors for their arena. What a bunch of whiners and babies. Would never want to do that day-in, day-out.

What a fucking joke. The same group that runs up ridiculous expense accounts and then gets called on it and won't comment or pay the money back. I wouldn't want to deal with it every day either but I do like some of the people, usually in the Sun, who go at them regularly.

I don't care who those guys are and I could care less about local city politics in a foreign country. But I can listen to that guy say, "Why did you call me a fat fuck?" over and over again in that high-pitched voice for hours. Has anyone put it to music yet?

I don't really know how I would have handled that. I just think it's the height of irony that here's Ford screeching about "verbal assault" four times in quick succession while getting in Barber's face and refusing to move in order to allow Barber to step into the elevator - because that's an actual assault.

It's a shame that Barber let his frustrations boil over. Although I'd probably lose it too if I had to cover a guy like Ford day in and day out. If this particular instance is any indication of how he really is, and let's not forget Ford took the first shot here, suggesting that Barber is "a socialist reporter," he seems to get off on playing games.
