We’re in the market. This is the job listing.

Full disclosure: we’re not interested in high school sports coverage that’s dependent on who won, who lost and is stuck in 1995. The Clarion Ledger is the largest media organization in the state of Mississippi, and has built a state-wide reputation for covering high school sports well because we tell stories, and do it across multiple mediums. The next high schools and recruiting editor will be asked to continue that legacy, joining a sports department that is situated in the middle of the SEC and won 12 APSEs last year. We want someone who can develop and work sources to break news and find stories no one else has told. During football season you’ll need to write mobile-friendly game stories on deadline. Hopefully you have video experience. Multimedia experience is mandatory. This is a demanding position but it’s also rewarding: recent editors now cover Mississippi State for us as well as work for ESPN, Chicago Sun-Times, Detroit Free Press and the New Orleans Advocate. Send a resume and clips, including multimedia examples, to sports editor Hugh Kellenberger at hkellenber@jackson.gannett.com.

Courtney Cronin once had this job. She went from there to the Mercury News in the Bay Area and is now ESPN's embedded Vikings reporter.
