    It's always made me laugh that the quickest way to get from New Orleans or Baton Rouge to Monroe is to drive through Mississippi for about four hours.

    Likewise, the quickest way to get from the Mississippi Coast to Natchez is to take I-10 to Baton Rouge and go North.

    Every state that has a dogleg has these oddities. For instance, the quickest way to get from the Panhandle to southeastern Oklahoma is almost entirely through Texas.

    Is it really quicker going all the way to BR, or would it be quicker to turn up I-55 at Hammond, then turn west toward Natchez on US 84 at Brookhaven, now that 84 is 4-laned all the way?

    In Idaho, it is quicker to get from Boise to Couer d'Alene by going through Washington
