D 1 QB Prospect has been dropped into the lap of our local HS-- Taylor Baty. Anyone know of him? Baty started out season at St Thomas Aquinas- (the # 1 team in the country) and played in the ESPN national tv game a few weeks ago. Obviously it did not work out since he left. The kid played last year at Menlo in California.

This seems like a good example of how parents can really screw things up for their kids and others who get in their way. For example the kid who thought he had starting QB job.

There's always West Canaan. The players run the team there... :D

The LA Times' Eric Sondheimer had an interesting column on the whole "Transferring for the brass ring" idea, as it pertains to basketball.

The Baty family used to live in my area. The dad, Greg, has always seemed convinced that his kid is the next Elway. Never had any interest in the overall team performance, only in his son's stats. He's exactly the kind of guy who would move Turner all over the country for purely football reasons. The thing is, the kid has always been a very good athlete, but nothing that knocks your socks off, which is probably why he didn't win the starting job at his Florida school. From what I've seen of him, he's not such a stud that you would move heaven and earth to get him and kick your established QB to the curb.

If he didn't even get the starting job at his Florida HS, why all the alleged D1 interest?

    Key word: alleged.

    Thought so. Great word.

Although that blog story says he has an offer from Stanford. Sounds like he got an offer after putting up huge numbers in CA, had to leave FL after not getting the starting job there.

That is what I wondered. It sounds to me like the Baty family is trying to gin up some publicity.

I noticed that his coach last year quit before season started. I am getting sick of these California QB's

Don't know anything about the kid but the fact he didn't win the job at StA shouldn't be a knock on him. That's believed to be the best program in the country this year. They've got a boatload of kids who will play FBS ball next year.
