Whatever happened to "We'll be here all night until we get it right?" What a whack job.

It would be nice to know, and the story is disastrously incomplete without telling us, how long the guy has been coaching. Presumably he didn't just wake up this fine morning in 2010 and decide it was a good day to start whipping players with weighted belts.

Presuming the story is true: Fired. Instantly. Booked for aggravated assault.

Bob Knight approves. (Someone had to do it)

I think firing is sort of harsh. The kids were probably little bastards. He should be able to whip them as much as he wants as long as they win basketball games and get good grades.

The coach had been an assistant at the high school (Murrah, an inner-city Class 6A that usually has some pretty good teams) for a few years. This was his first -- and, I'm going to go out on a limb and say his last -- as head coach.

Murrah's boys have slipped dramatically the past few seasons in what is a super-competitive hoops environment in Jackson. Maybe this was his misguided attempt at motivating his players to close the gap a bit. Don't know of any other reason why someone would do that in this day and age.

    Meh

This idiot probably ran a zone.

Starman is right about a lack of facts, and the coach should be instantly removed.

  10. He told school administrators that he would whip the team into shape. No one took the comment literally.
