Patch.com, an AOL-owned network of hyperlocal news sites, needs freelance sports writers and a part-time sports editor based in Western Fairfax County (Reston, Herndon, Vienna, Va., etc).

Candidate needs to have thorough knowledge of the Northern Virginia area, schools and teams. Also key: ability to work on deadline, basic photo and video skills, computer savvy, flexibility to write game stories as well as features. Job would cover high schools, of course, but also wide-ranging community sports such as triathlons, races, youth soccer, hockey and summer swimming.

Freelancers paid by the story with a competitive rate. Part-time sports editors could make good hourly rate, plus some benefits. Candidates must have a car, access to a computer, digital camera and weekend/night availability.

This is a good opportunity for a new grad or other job-seeking sportswriter to have published clips in a multimedia platform.

Please send resume and at least two clips to Reston Patch editor Karen Goff at kareng@patch.com
