Not saying he's not a control freak. But he's resurrected many teams during his career.
And starman, I wouldn't know much about the NCAA championship he won because I wasn't alive at the time but the reason the Pistons won was because they were the better team. The teamwork idea worked and that's why they won.

Brown didn't invent team work or improve on it. If you have a very good team without excellent players you can sell them on the idea of team work, especially if they are winning already.

Larry Brown couldn't carry Red Holtzman's socks.

True ,but when was the last time we saw a team like the Pistons? You just don't see that in modern day basketball. He didn't invent teamwork, but he brought it back from the dead.

Uh, yeah. And those loosey-goosey, run-and-gun Phoenix Suns are playing pretty good team ball too. Unfortunately, they're scoring 110, not 75, points per game, so they can't be "Playing The Right Way." ::) ::)

Yeah, but that was more Tim Duncan's team. When they won the championship, everyone knew that the Finals MVP was going to be Duncan. You could've made an argument for 4 players when the Pistons won it.

EDIT: And Starman, the Suns weren't doing this before the Pistons won the championship. Steve Nash wasn't even on the Suns during that year.

Well you could throw in the Mavericks of that season with Nash, Nowitski et al.

The objective of basketball is to Win Games. If the best way for your team to win games is for Tim Duncan (or Kobe Bryant or Michael Jordan or Wilt Chamberlain) to handle the ball on 80% of your offensive plays, then that's what you should do.

If the talent on your team dictates that you should have 4 guys averaging 15 ppg, then do that.

What else was Brown gonna do with the Pistons? Tell them he wanted Rip Hamilton to go out and average 35 ppg?

Yeah but that really wasn't teamwork. It was Nowitzki takin' most of the shots and Nash playing second fiddle.
And Starman, I get what you mean. That's why I said he was a control freak. But the guy won basketball games and that's all that matters.

True, but it still wasn't like the Piston's team. This is what you put:
    Best Player
    2nd best player
    Role player,role player,role player etc.

It wasn't like(and still isn't) that for the Pistons.

Exactly. The played teamwork and great defense. But you gotta' give SOME credit to Larry Brown.

But he has transformed bad teams to playoff teams many times in his career. You could say his coaching is flawed, but his record speaks for itself. 1,285-853

Not to re-thread-jack this thread, but who beat out Arenas for the final spot on Team USA?
