But he ended up signing a two-year extension at pretty much the same money he'd been making his whole career, so he's not the best example for your argument.

BTW, Stewart gets $1.5 mil if he makes the team -- more than he made last year. And if he's so good, he will easily make the team.

He signed that two-year extension deep into the season. So he's a pretty damn good example of my argument that good players are falling thru the cracks.

I know he did. But he didn't fall through the cracks. He just signed for less money, and then got the money he'd been making all along. Heck, in 2004 he signed w/the Tribe for $1.1 mil. When the Indians traded him in 2006, Belliard was posting the lowest numbers during his time with them.

Marlon Byrd is going to play left field and right field for the Rangers this year? Wow, that sounds interesting. You'd have thought we would have seen a story about that somewhere.

That's how awesome Marlon Byrd is!!

Actually, the RF is slated to be Milton Bradley. 30-year-old MBs at both corners.

Using young players in lieu of veterans who ought to be put out to pasture has worked wonders for the Rays.

He DID fall thru the cracks. Sorry but anyone who doesn't sign until Feb. 18 has fallen thru the cracks.

And in 2004, he was a guy who had yet to meet expectations in Milwaukee or Colorado, so his stock was at an all-time low. He'd put together three pretty good seasons for the Indians and Cardinals.

No, they use young players who ought to be put out to pasture, too.

Easily one of the dumbest things I've ever read on SportsJournalists.com.

Just you boys wait. The Rays are coming into their own this season. Not to the playoffs, but they're going to be a lot better, mostly thanks to their young players.
