Here's a mover you don't want to hire

    Angola,
I understand that. I guess my response would be: if you could afford it, you would have hired a mover, right?

I was responding to Ducky's statement that you should never hire a mover but strong-arm friends, family and co-workers.

That's entirely different from your situation.

Before I made that move I would have said no.

    After making that move, yes.

The second we got to Texas we started saving money for our next move so we could have pros do it. It was a terrible experience.

Last move we hired Tippet-Richardson, a pretty well known mover.

They were absolute pros. Guy came in to our old house a couple of months before we moved, did his measurements, gave us a quote.

The two guys who moved the stuff were unbelievable. Had the old house packed up by just after lunch, and moved everything to the old house (about a kilometre away) and put everything in the appropriate rooms. Even set up the beds.

There was one broken glass in the whole thing.

    Cost was exactly as quoted.

    And no, I didn't tip them. :)

I think the help this guy needs won't be found in the Yellow Pages.

Better Business Bureau anyone? Guy probably deserved it for not doing his homework. Went with the cheapest option, no doubt.

By the way, the Free Moving Quotes banner ad on the bottom (work computer, no AdBlock) are creepy when you're talking about getting ripped off by a moving company. :D

My dad had a family moving business for years and years. Handed down from his father.

Wish he would have had this policy when I was growing up.

    BBB is mostly ineffectual.
    He needs a lawyer.

I discovered a few months ago that it's much easier -- and takes less trips -- to the smaller stuff and boxes of an apartment with an SUV than it is with a Mustang.

That's why they pay you the big bucks.
