    It's always a nice thing to hear and a standard in every story about a fired manager or coach of any pro team. From AP story:

    “It’s the worst part of the job when the manager gets the blame,” first baseman Lyle Overbay said. “It’s too bad because it’s really the players.”

    Carter in 1993: "Hmm last year I came on to pitch to Otis Nixon and induced him to ground out to me to end the World Series. How can I top that?"

    If there is a current bigger example of a GM desperately trying to save his own ass I'd like to know (Omar Minaya excluded).

    As Elliotte said earlier, this has Paul Godfrey's hand all over it.

    He's taking his cues from the Leafs who recycle players, coaches & GM"s routinely.
