We usually use head coach for preps football, since every team has about 50 assistants.

I'm surprised Mangino has an attractive daughter.

I'm surprised a Mangino has a mouth that opens that wide without a hoagie three inches away.

  5. I always use "coach" for the head coach and "assistant" for the assistant coach.
It's succinct but still tells the reader all they need to know.

Careful. That can get you in a lot of trouble on dates.

I think we've demonstrated beautifully why we don't, um, give our readers "head" when referring to a head coach.

Agreed. It's assume you are quoting or talking about the head coach. The only people that get clarifications are those that need clarifications such as assistants, interims, lame-ducks, etc.
