Interested to see how Scorcese works 'Gimme Shelter' into 1920's Atlantic City. You know he will.

Loved the first episode, need to watch again because I mess up who's who. Especially loved the first 'Al Capone' moment.

Read in one of the trades production of first season cost a modest $60 million.

I liked it enough to keep watching, although getting used to Buscemi as a lead is taking a while.

You're not intelligent enough for it.

    Ben,
Did you not like Buscemi's performance in 'Ghost World'? I thought there was a lot of depth and nuance there.

    Didn't see it.

    Nolo contendre.

The guy's a solid supporting actor, though I personally don't like his style. He's plenty-quirky enough for the Coens, though.

I love the movie. I'd be interested to hear your opinion if you ever see it.

  9. If you are interested in this period of time and how gangsters used prohibition to gain control and avert laws - I highly recommend this book

I saw the commercials, and each time I thought, "Wow, how did they get Raul Julia back to life?" Then I realized it was Steve Buscemi.

After being WAY behind the curve on The Sopranos and The Wire, I'm going to follow this one week to week. I have the first episode, uh... acquired...

Here's a few good Sepinwall pieces.

    1. General review of the series:

    2. In-depth review of episode 1 (major spoilers):

    http://www.hitfix.com/blogs/whats-alan-watching/posts/boardwalk-empire-pilot-the-day-the-drinking-died

    3. Interview with creator Terence Winter:

The second definitely contains a lot of spoilers (it's written for those who have already seen the episode), so don't read it if you haven't watched Episode 1 yet. The other two don't give anything away for anyone who has read/seen other advance publicity for the show.

  12. My biggest surprise was the fact it was Dabneu Coleman playing the Commodore.
