Hattrick - online soccer game

Currently scoreless, 12 minutes into my first match.

 

Ok, I'm in. Just waiting for my team to get activated.

 

Lost my opener 7-1. Who sez there is no offence in soccer?

 

Went down 1-0 in the 16th minute, but just equalized on a PK 27 minutes in.

 

Clanged one off the post at the 42 minute mark; go to the half tied 2-2. I apparently have enjoyed 51% of possession, so I got that going for me.

Oddly addicting.

 

Addicting is the right word, and it's not really that complex once you get through the manual and understand it's a long-range game. I'm in my second season (first full season) and am 3-0-1. Just lost my keeper, though, out for two weeks, so this will be a challenge.

I ended up winning my first game 4-2, and I'm trying to figure out what to do in the transfer market. Everyone sucks and there's no money for a spending spree. Do I blow it all on a solid goalie and a decent defender, or do I try to add several players who just aren't as wretched as what I have now? Hmmm...

Is this better than whatifsports.com?

Is the soccer the best sim? I would love to do football, baseball and basketball if they were sims as nice as this one seems to be.

 

For Hattrick, the game engine and mechanisms really aren't that great. It's pretty overly simplistic, and 90% of the game is just waiting for your young players to train, selling them, buying new players with the money, and repeating the cycle endlessly.

The fun part about hattrick is the community. It's truly a global game with tons of players to interact with.
