Has anyone here had to replace an iPod screen?

The screen on my video iPod broke yesterday. There is a thumb-sized smudge at the top of the screen and a couple lines going through the picture. I didn't drop it or anything, so I don't know how it happened.

It's not under warranty. But I was wondering if anyone had a similar experience and where to go to fix it or just send it out.

The only Apple Store near me is in a mall that is under construction, so I would have to drive two hours to go to one, so that's not an option.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Obama will fix it, if you vote for him. :D :D :D

I would do that. McCain has zero chance of winning my state, so I would trade my vote for a fixed iPod. ;D

If I understand correctly, you can not repair them. I think you can ship it back to Apple, but if the warranty has expired, they will most likely tell you it is cheaper to replace it than repair it.

I, of course, could be 100 percent wrong about that. which would not surprise me in the least.

Unfortunately, you are not the first person to tell me that. One co-worker said he took his into Best Buy (he had purchased the extended warranty) and they told him the warranty didn't cover the screen. His problem was slightly different than mine.

    I think you are SOL.

There are some places that fix damaged cellphones and such that might fix an ipod but not sure it would be worth it.

They likely will say that it was damaged from pressure (maybe from being in the pocket of your tight designer jeans) and that the warranty doesn't cover that.

A couple more to check out:

    ifixit.com
    powerbookmedic.com

Both are likely to be able to sell you parts and provide instructions.

She tried to hide it by the faded denim clothes she wore.
But I knew she'd never been inside a bar before.
I felt just like a peasant, who just had met a queen
And she knew I saw right through her tight fittin' jeans.

I asked her what's a woman like you doin' here?
I see you're used to champagne, but I'll buy you a beer.
She said you've got me figured out, but I'm not what I seem
And for a dance I'll tell you 'bout these tight fittin' jeans.

She said I married money, I'm used to wearin' pearls
But I've always dreamed of bein' just a good ol' boy's girl.
So tonight I left those crystal candlelights to live a dream,
And partner there's a tiger in these tight fittin' jeans.

We danced every dance, and Lord the beer that we went through.
I'm satisfied I did my best to make her dreams come true.
As she played out her fantasy before my eyes it seemed,
A cowgirl came alive inside those tight fittin' jeans.

In my mind she's still a lady, that's all I'm gonna say.
I knew that I'd been broken by the time we parted ways.
And I know I held more woman than most eyes have ever seen
That night I knew a lady wearin' tight fittin' jeans.

Well, now she's back in her world, and I'm still stuck in mine.
But I know I'll always remember the time.
    A cowboy once had, a millionaire's dream.
And Lord I loved that lady wearin' tight fittin' jeans.

I was wearing my Jordache jeans, so maybe that's how it broke. ;D

We have a feature each morning on our show called the "vault song" and that's what we played today.

What a small world it is.
