    Juneteenth

Two big things happened on June 19 that shouldn't be forgotten.
In 1862, slavery was outlawed in U.S. territories
In 1865, Uniont troops arrived in Galveston, Txas with news that the civil war was over and all slaves were free.

    Re: Juneteenth

It's also the date of the Dragon Boat Festival in China, per my Simpsons monthly calendar.

Now that's a quality reference. Nice work, F_B.

  7. If I'd have taken odds on who would have picked that one up, you'd have been 6-5.

But this time he's applying the beating to Preston Brooks.

    What about Foster Brooks?

    You're far too kind.

What I don't get is why challenging Sumner to a duel was beneath Brooks' honor, but breaking a cane over his head was totally copacetic.

I guess if you've managed to talk yourself into slavery being OK, you can resolve pretty much anything to your own satisfaction.
