Happy Birthday, Waterytart!

Many of you know Waterytart simply as someone who gives great quote and opens up a big ole’ can of whupass every time she plays word association.

But on the occasion of her birthday, it’s worth noting that the above hardly scratches the surface of who she is.

For more years than either of us would like to admit publicly, The ‘Tart has been my muse, companion, navigator, lover and best friend.

She is my reason for being, someone who has experienced everything in my life from the sublime to the profane to the amazing to the ridiculous.

She’s drunk Black Death vodka with me while reading pornographic novels in Reykjavik and she’s sipped umbrella drinks together watching the sunset at the Moana Surfrider.

When I did a 720-degree spin down a treacherous ice-covered road in my Mustang GT convertible, she giggled like a teenage girl and said, “That was fun! Do it again!”

She owns the biggest fucking moosehead anyone will ever see and when we walked into a bar in 1985 to see the Del Lords, she looked at me excitedly and said, “They’re playing Blind Alfred Reed!”

We’ve buried each other’s family members and lived through moments of domestic terror that if most people knew about would never get married.

She likes dirty martinis and shots of Jameson’s, critic’s darlings, Duke basketball, Proust, loud rock ‘n’ roll and movies about paranoia, suspense and despair. She’s a crappy wife and the best companion any man ever had.

But most of all, she’s been there.

And for that, I’m eternally grateful.

So happy birthday, baby. You are the world to me. :-*

 

Well, not that big a can of whupass. And Proust? Does she really want to share Proust fandom with a basket case?



Anyhoo, happy birthday, Ms. 'tart, Mrs. Lono, Lady Whatevah. ;D

 

You had me until Duke basketball.

And now lono is safe from losing her to Sammy Hagar.

If I only knew her from the quotes that make lono's taglines some of the best reading on the board, I'd want to know her better. Knowing her better, I offer my birthday wishes too, painfully aware this post will fall far short of lono's beautiful tribute -- and short of watertart's tremendous facility with words.

That said, in communicating she has an understated elegance and an ominipresent eloquence made all the more graceful by her incomprehensible inability to acknowledge the skill with which she tames the language (make that languages, plural). She's a loyal friend, a dependable shoulder and, during most of my 10 months of unemployment, a rock nonpareil.

Without your friendship, waterytart, I doubt I'd be around to post this today, so if you don't like what I've written, you only have yourself to blame.



Happy birthday. May your day be as meaningful and special to you as you are to those lucky enough to know you.

 

Wait, LONO IS MARRIED TO WATERYTART?! No one ever tells me anything!!!

I am quite proud of the fact that when I met Waterytart Saturday night, the first thing I said was "I love your work in Lono's sigs." It was great to meet the woman behind the masterpieces and to learn she's as hilarious in real life as on the board. And it was even more awesome to see how much these two love one another, even in acts as simple as walking to the ballpark and eating dinner with a bunch of strange strangers.

Happy birthday watery! Hope it's a great one!
