Happy Birthday, Tim Horton

It's the best coffee/donut combo in Afghanistan. There's a very large one in Kandahar, where there's a large Canadian contingent.

 

Closed down when the Canadians came home.

And what a shame. You'd think, with their huge commitment to grassroots hockey that they love to trumpet, they could find it within them to remember that their founder was, um, a Hall of Fame hockey player.

 

Except he was primarily a Leaf, which might not play well everywhere.

 

I figured they'd leave it open. It's not like Canadians were the only people who used it. They lost a ton of business when I was there because they moved from their central location on the airfield to one about 500 meters away, where the Canadians were housed.

 

Now you know how Canadians feel about Hulu.

 

That's not a bad point. The paintings I remember were of him in a Sabres uniform, though, which still suited me fine.

 

He played two seasons for the Sabres.

It was a friggin' footnote in his career after playing for almost twenty years for the Leafs. It's like talking about Gretzky's glory days with the Blues.
