    I thought long and hard about returning the birthday salutation that you gave me on Sept. 27 Slappy. Then I realized that you're simply not worth it. I'm not an a-hole.
    Happy belated birthday and here's wishing you more birthdays.

  6. One time, I was in Detroit over Memorial Day weekend, and Shelby took us to the OMB for a blues festival. We spent the better part of an afternoon and evening there and the next day, at the event, Bill Halls asked me what I'd done over the holiday. I told him.
    "The Old Miami!" he replied. "My first week in the paper, I covered a triple murder there!"
    Classic.
