Andy Griffith, Ron Howard and Jim Nabors are the ones I can think of.

 

George Lindsay hasn't gone to the big gas station in the sky yet, has he? And what about the dude who played Howard?

 

Barney: Where's Otis? He's not in his cell.

Bronson: I shot him.

Barney: Well that's... what?!

Bronson: And now, I'm going down to Emmett's Fix-It Shop. [cocks gun] To fix Emmett.

 

I don't count him as original since he replaced Gomer.

 

Jack Dawson (Howard) is dead. And Howard Sprague wasn't an original.

I know someone who's good friends with Nabors, who has been running a macadamia nut farm in Hawaii for a long time. Not a bad life, I wouldn't think.

 

Way back in olden days (read: mid 90s), I used to do a Friday football postgame radio show in Nabors' hometown, Sylacauga, Ala. The regulars told me a story about interviewing Nabors when he was back in town for some civic parade or something.

Radio guy: So what are you doing these days?
Jim Nabors: Oh, just sitting around on my farm, raising my nuts.
