Always surprised that he never won a Lady Byng. His equally elegant opponent with same first name won 2 - Jean Rattelle

A line of Jean Beliveau, Jean Ratelle and Guy Lafleur would have been amazingly gracefully and classy. Gilles Villemure would have backstopped. Pierre Pilote would have one side of the ice and for shits and giggles I would throw Moose Vasko out there just to ruin the flare.

Jean Beliveau turned down the offer to be the Governor-General of Canada because of family issues.

The second best No. 4 in hockey history. Always been a Beliveau fan — and this comes from a diehard Bs fan. He's the epitome of elan.

The matinee idol of the '50s Habs. No one else was close.

They built the Quebec Colisee for him when he played junior.

Elegant though he may have been, Beliveau played with an edge that likely would never have allowed him to win the Lady Byng.

The year he won his first scoring title, he was also third in the league in PIMs.

And maybe that's an even bigger reason why he was and will always be the perfect picture of everything a hockey captain should be. Happy Birthday, Jean. :)

I was always partial to Yvan Cournoyer, both in cool name and style of play.

But happy b-day to Jean Beliveau, all the same.

How many Heismans did he say Ron Powlus would win?
