All-fucking-world pull there, Beej! Man, did I love that record (might have been the last 45 I actually bought) and it was the ONLY good thing about that movie. I am the only one in the office right now and I have cranked it as loud as my shitty computer speakers will go THREE times!

not many in SportsJournalists.com nation can speak to the end-to-end spectacular, ahead-of-his-time, breathtaking dominance brought to the ice. the few of us who witnessed orr's other-worldly skills understand.

gretzky was simply marvelous; no attempt here to denigrate 'the great one.' as someone else has noted, we're talking apples/oranges -- different eras, different positions, all that jazz.

but this is an instance in which my younger friends just have to trust your elders when we say: 'there was BOBBY ORR, then everybody else.'

I'm about the same age as Orr so while I was watching him dominate junior hockey with the Oshawa Generals as a 14 year old (and he looked like he was 12), I was playing Bantam hockey for a travel team.

And I would highly recommend Stephen Brunt's book on Orr. Brunt captured what the game (on and off the ice) was like in the 60's during the time of the original six prior to agents and the draft.
