Happy 50th, Goalie Mask

    That's me in the first row behind the glass.

    Plante is like The Big M in my memory. The former was always a Hab, the latter always a Leaf.

    You did NOT just cross up your horror movie icons!
    Jason was Friday the 13th. Freddy Krueger was in Nightmare on Elm St.
    Always thought it ironic, too, that they put Jason in the hockey mask right as that style was fading out. IIRC, Pelle Lindbergh was the last one to wear it and he died in 1981 or '82.

    SI has a nice gallery of masks from over the years up on their.

    I think Murray Bannerman of the Black Hawks wore one until 1987?

    But then it's Ranford from the year I fell in love with hockey. The '89-90 cup run sucked me in forever, and Ranford was of course at the centre of that.

  12. Watching DirecTV one day this summer at my mother's house and I happened to come across the NHL Network's show about the history of the mask and I thought it was pretty interesting stuff.
