I covered every Stanley Cup finals — in person — from 1995-2004, every All-Star Game from ’97-’04 and the Salt Lake Olympics.

I did NHL freelance work from 1988-’94. I broke John Vanbiesbrouck’s microwave oven when he lived near the Rangers’ practice facility in Rye and I’m still not sure why I drove down to D.C. on Black Friday to interview Bengt Gustafsson for a feature.

First of all, calm down. They’re big boys. They can handle the criticism. Also, it would be one thing for them to make an appearance at the White House to commemorate the anniversary. It’s another thing to step on stage at a rally (a partisan campaign event) donning MAGA hats. Reasonable people can believe they should be above coopting the team and its significance like that regardless of who the president is. The criticism and disappointment is justified. And while I don’t know you - and you could beca great dude in person - you come across as a complete ass for doubting the other poster’s credentials simply because you can’t handle his political take.

Also - it’s officially known as both the “Stanley Cup Finals” AND the “Stanley Cup Final” (which the NHL only started to use in 2006). So you kind of hoisted yourself by your own petard with your little “gotcha” attempt.
