I've covered basketball in the States but would rather cover it in Europe for more money, free rent and great tax breaks. And $1 Heinekens. Where do I sign up?

Plus, when you get bought out or laid off from a paper overseas, the exchange rate makes the severance worth more in Euros or rubles or whatever than it would be in dollars.

There's also more of a chance team could go belly up or the ownership group could decide they don't want to be in the business of basketball any more.

The bottom line is -- if someone is willing to pay you more to do the same job, why wouldn't you?

Sounds like Childress is getting an awesome deal. Good for him, looking outside the NBA.

Leagues create salary caps to keep player costs down but they just don't work in a competitive global market. The NFL gets away with it because it's the world's only competitive American-style football. But the NBA and the NHL are finding themselves increasingly more vulnerable to world-wide competition.

::) This is one of the strongest sports clubs in Europe, not the ABA sequel. It's possible to be a big-time sports franchise without being in an American sports league, you know.
