Great NY times article about Axl's continued descent into insanity:

This was the funniest bit of the NYT story:

He accompanied Buckethead on a jaunt to Disneyland when the guitarist was drifting toward quitting, several people involved recalled; then Buckethead announced he would be more comfortable working inside a chicken coop, so one was built for him in the studio, from wood planks and chicken wire.

    WTF??

    Wow.

I'll buy it if it ever comes out, because after 14 years, Chinese Democracy will be either insanely brilliant or absolutely shit. Either way, it might be worth owning.

Agreed. It's either "The Godfather" or "Gigli." There is no in between ...

Or it's either "Appetite for Destruction" or "The Spaghetti Incident?!"

    "Master of Puppets" or "Re-Load"

"Dark Side of the Moon" or "Everything recorded since Waters left"

    "Moving Pictures" or "Presto"

"Van Halen II" or "Everything recorded with Hagar"

    "Who's Next" or "Face Dances"

    "Paranoid" or "Never Say Die!"

"Revolver" or "Yellow Submarine official motion picture soundtrack"

"Whatever is recognized as the best Stones album" or "everything they have put out in the last 25 or so years"

    etc.

It's either The Deer Hunter or Heaven's Gate.

    Or, Reds or Ishtar.

Or Sgt. Pepper's (or Revolver, Rubber Soul et al.) or Pat Boone's "Metal" album.

What if it's the greatest thing ever though? Would that not be a trip. Then Axl would probably kill himself.

There was a copy of Chinese Democracy on the net for over a year and if this is the same album, it's pretty damn good... No, it's not Appetite for Destruction, but it's a lot better than 99 percent of heavy metal that's been released in the last decade...

The version I've heard has 10 songs, the best of which are IRS and The Blues, which will both be monster hits. Some of the others grow on you and there are a few that don't work... If you're a big time Guns fan and have heard the performances they've made at various shows over the last few years, more than likely you've heard the bulk of the songs... I don't know if anything else has been added...

If you're expecting another Appetite, you're going to be disappointed...

Use Your Illusion wasn't another Appetite either. Those records showed just how many styles that band could play.

I'd add that the new material is better than most of the hard rock that has been out in the last decade.

You can't replace Slash in this band. That is all.
