Guild releases WashPost salary ranges

    If true, that's one damn bad reason to keep a literal moat between them. There should be more crossover than ever, if you're interested in the future of the journalism. But if you're simply interested in controlling and reducing labor costs, fine, do it this way.

    If you were a columnist or someone who didn't have to worry about leaving and could just Metro in to work, you could easily come in from a cheaper place somewhere on the Metro map.

    Having spent many years at a union shop, I can say without doubt -- at least for that shop -- there were no writers outside the union and none allowed. That was a hard and fast guild rule.
