    Significant number well above scale:

Interesting. Highest salary is less than $240,000.

Yeah but they'd be making even more above scale if the Guild wasn't holding them down by having a minimum scale in the first place!

Am I missing it ... where does the EIC rank ... because the highest newsroom salary is classified as "reporter, bureau chief or columnist"

Does anyone think you can live in DC for less than $100,000? You would not be able to own anything other than a car.

You are facing a potential monster commute, but if you pulled odd hours, the drive could be pulled off.

You are better off working in Western PA or in Binghamton, NY. You could actually buy a house there for a writer's salary.

Management is not included in the Guild report.

I live less than a mile outside D.C. for much less than $100,000, and I bought a condo.

If you expect to buy a 3 bedroom home in DC while making under $100,000 then, no, that's not possible.

But you can afford plenty. Especially if your wife works as well.

Keep in mind, the big names are probably exempt.

I would guess some, but I'd hope a writer making 200K would be at least a semi big name.
