Griffey hobbles out of game

Speaking of Griffey, how did we (I?) miss his throat-slash at Jeff Brantley the other day?

His feud with Brennaman in his early Reds days was classic. Marty totally pwned him on that one and Griffey later made amends.

I can only hope he does the same thing to Hawk Harrelson.

Not likely since Hawk will never criticize the Sox.

Hasn't Davies been dizzy since Braves fans tabbed him the next great arm of a generation?

No, of Griffey and his constant nagging injuries. I have no idea why the ChiSox made this move. Have you not paid attention to Grumpy the last eight years?

When it's cold, he'll pull a hammy. Heat schmeat, he's 38 and breaking down. Good move for Reds, bad for Chicago.

You realize someone else was taken out because of the heat, right? And explain to me how it's a bad deal for the Sox. They gave up two players who aren't worth a damn for Griffey. Even if he's hurt, he's free and it cost them little talent.

And the chance that he'll meaningfully focus when in something resembling an honest-to-God race for the first time in years is worth the shot. Barring a few obvious mistakes, Williams remains one of the great psychological prognosticators of our time.

Williams has made his reputation taking veteran, talented players who had soured elsewhere and giving them the chance to redeem themselves: Pierzynski, Dye, Thome, Contreras, O. Hernandez, Everett, Podsednik, Linebrink, Thornton, Dotel, Vazquez -- heck, you could include Bobby Jenks and Gavin Floyd on that list, because organizations soured on them before they stuck in the majors. For the most part, that strategy has worked, so why not see if it works for Griffey? Especially when all he gave up with a marginal long reliever/starter and a second baseman who flopped in his shot last year, and had trouble making his way to spring training this year.

The White Sox's bigger problem is how its pitching has gone completely south since the All-Star break. When Mark Buehrle is sporting the exact same crappy pitching lines as Clayton Richard, to put in the vernacular of Hawk Harrelson, that's trouble.

Exactly, the rotation has to return to form, and the bullpen needs Linebrink healthy.

They were a much better road team in '05.

    And the dichotomy is troubling.

Is there any reason why he's roaming CF for the White Sox instead of being the team's DH?

    Lotta DHs on that team
