Great book. Read on SJ recommendation. Not Ball Four but some funny stuff.

The AAA manager who says boys you are this close to major league pussy and holds his thumb and forefinger about an inch apart.

"Steve Hovley sidled over to me in the outfield and said, "Billy Graham is a cracker."

Since we're back to remembering parts of Ball Four: One of my favorite parts was when Bouton recalled the 1965 season when Johnny Keane took over and the club began its descent.

Bouton mentioned how Keane seemed to always want to win a game at the expense of the season case in point being his habit of asking an injured Mickey Mantle to play although he wasn't 100 percent. He would ask "How's the leg Mick?" and when Mantle would say it was bothering him, Keane would passive-aggresively shame him into agreeing to play that day.

Then, when the teams were out warming up, Bouton would sidle up to Mantle in the outfield.

Bouton: "How's the leg today, Mick?"
Mantle: "It's severed at the knee."

And it goes on from there for a few minutes. Funny stuff.

I've done this a couple of times before, but I'm following "Ball Four" day by day. Good way to relive the expolits of the Pilots, Mounties and Astros.

Bouton has just been sent to Vancouver.

    Bouton: But can you play?
Mantle: If I can fine some tape.
