I'm of the opinion that since shortstops began being offensive forces from a power standpoint, such as Ripken, Larkin, A-Rod and Jeter, instead of the Ray Oyler, Mark Belanger, good-field, no-hit era, that they wind up winning many more games with their bats than Ozzie ever did with his glove. Cal, Larkin and Jeter certainly weren't Ozzie defensively, but the net result (decent defense and hitting for power and average) meant more to their teams than Ozzie did.
Wish there was a way to quantify that. I'm sure some stats geek who loves Ozzie will try to prove me wrong. But I'd take Ripken and Jeter over Ozzie any day.

This is true.

Jeter in his career has driven in 1242 runs and scored 1853. Ozzie drove in 793 and scored 1257. That's an average of around 75 extra runs produced per season for the Captain. Does anyone really believe that Jeter is that bad defensively that he gives back 75 runs a season? Of course not - Jeter's bat more than makes up for any defensive advantage Ozzie had.
