    i'm about as big of a dodger homer as the next guy, but hodges really is a new york version of steve garvey.

    Not even close, my friend. Hodges was the an outstanding defensive first baseman, a great hitter and --if you ask any of the surviving Brooklyn Dodgers (a very small sampling at this point) the most consistent, important player on those teams.

    And, he came up as a catcher and moved to first base to make way for Campy.

    Campy never played in LA. He was paralyzed in a car accident between the end of the '57 (last in Brooklyn) season and start of '58 season in LA.
