Greatest Athletes/Sports Figures of the 20th Century

Ok, this may be a bit of a reach ...

Remember when seemingly every news organization, especially ESPN, was doing lists of the greatest athletes of the 20th Century in 1999? I remember a couple of outlets also did one for each state. I have a copy of what SI did, but I'm looking something that would include sports figures and maybe even events in each state.

I think Sporting News might have done something like that.

Anyway, any suggestions of where I could find such lists would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Just to throw you a bone, be sure to include Marvin Miller and Curt Flood if you are looking for influential people.
