Two songs come to my mind:

"Simple Song Of Freedom" by Bobby Darin. I dare ya to listen to it and not have a moment of reflection upon our times right now.

"Fire and Rain" by James Taylor. God, that's incredible.

For "The Crystal Ship" vote, I'll second that. "Before you slip into unconsciousness, I'd like to have another kiss ... "

Freaky. I was just thinking of that video last night...I closed the mailbox in front of my house and the sound reminded me of the end of the "I'm on Fire" video, when Bruce elects against ringing the doorbell and just leaves the keys to the incredibly hot rich woman's car in the mailbox. It reminded me of how he did a great job of telling a story in his shortest video ever. That song is less than three minutes yet he tells this whole story of a guy coming to grips with the fact he can never have a relationship with the white-collar hottie.

That smile of Bruce's at the end is worth a thousand words. And I love that lingering image of her pristine hands dropping the keys into his grimy, weathered mitts (or, as Dick Enberg would say, carpals).

    Great song, better video.

As for great simple songs, I think Seger's best simple song is "You'll Accompany Me." As I've noted in approximately half my posts, that song was the soundtrack to the greatest scene in TV history: Bill Haverchuck making out with the hot cheerleader in the closet in Freaks and Geeks. I love how the lyrics build to a crescendo: I'll take my chances babe I'll risk it all...I'll win your love or I'll take the fall... That could describe any risk you take in life. Awesome song.

Gotta love any song with a xylophone as the main instrument.

  10. 'You Really Got Me" and "All Day And All Of The Night" -- The Kinks.
"I Will" -- The Beatles. (Somebody beat me to "In My Lif")
    "I Can't Explain" -- The Who
    and, of course,
    "Louie, Louie."

    "Waterloo Sunset" The Kinks.
    "Redemption Song" Bob Marley.
"This Old Porch" Robert Earl Keen (performed more famously by his friend Lyle Lovett).
"If I Had a Boat" Lyle Lovett.
    "I Stand Accused" Elvis Costello.

Not really sure what's mmeant by a simple song, but I think these qualify.

    That'll do for now.
