Not being a basketball fan in any way, shape or form, I have to ask why he should lose his job.

He likely caused several thousand dollars of water damage to his office from all the crying.

Well, just read this and it should be clear:

Oklahoma Baptist's hopes of a national tournament fell victim to the NAIA's desire to greater attendance Friday in a 64-63 loss to MidAmerica Nazarene University.

MidAmerica Nazarene is in the tournament as champion of the Heart of America Athletic Conference, a conference courted by the NAIA it move up from Division II to boost attendance in Kansas City. The move, which included keeping the HAAC commissioner as the director of officials, worked for the association but at the expense of the Bison.

    Fourth-grade level writing, if that.

Fourth-grade level writing befits the schoolyard level of sportsmanship, though, doesn't it?

But I thought SIDs were supposed to be homers. :D

    The homer isn't the issue.

Was it an official press release? Or was it just a web posting?

    Because there is a difference.

And it's not marked as a 'release' on the link provided.

My guess (just based on experience with other colleges and universities) is that it was a Web posting that also served as a press release.
