I've been trying to break into the sports writing game for a bit--after years of political writing--and recently landed a freelance opportunity at Grantland. I know the site evokes mixed emotions around here, but, overall, is it a good place for someone who is trying to land more work and get his name out there to publish in?

I hate it. Would you put in a good word me so they'll offer me some work?

For sheer exposure, yes, it's very good.

Fittingly for the subject matter, I think that original post was a humblebrag.

It's not the Plain Dealer, but then again, nothing is.

I'm a sports writer interested in political journalism who has just been offered a chance to host my own prime-time cable show. I know most people hate prime-time cable "news" shows, but they're offering $10 million a year. Is this a good way to break in?

And hey, poster, you've already managed to look douchey to one of the bigger-name guys affiliated with your new place! Congrats for that, too!
