At my mom's house, our tree has an ornament from every year starting the year she and my dad married (they've since divorced, but we keep the tradition with my mom and sister). My sister and I get to hang "our" year ornaments - 1984 and 1986. It's really enjoyable.

We go to Hallmark every year and pick out an ornament to add to the tree for that year. The only rules are it has to have the year somewhere as part of the ornament, not the copyright on the bottom, and we have to agree on it. Since this is my first year with my own place, I decided I'd start that tradition with my fake tree.

I'm a big traditionalist when it comes to Christmas. But I find that makes it a lot more enjoyable.
