Your fantasy team will still suck and nobody will care about it but you.

Prime example of ESPN/NFL overkill... the lead story on ESPN.com right now is Todd McShay's mock draft.

NO, the owners don't care how this will effect the players.

Um, how would this translate to more money for owners unless they can renegotiate the TV contract?

Still a win for the owners. They'll get more tickets sold, concessions and parking for home games. But if the TV money stays the same, the cap doesn't change, therefore they spend the same on players. They come out ahead.

Concession stand revenue, maybe. But at least in Buffalo, we pay the same ticket and parking prices for preseason games. That's why most of the season-ticket holders hate 'em.

That's assuming they flip a preseason game to a regular-season one, which is a point I should've taken in account. Still, a plus for the owners, albeit a smaller one. Gross TV money won't change unless they redo the deal. And they're trying to dial back the salary percentage, which is leading to armageddon in 2011.

Mr. Bat has pointed out the true rationale of this dumb idea. If the goal is to get the players to accept a reduction of their share of the take, then expanding the sum of the total boodle offers a means of making the proposition more palatable. That, plus the roster expansion it would make necessary.

Armageddon? What are the players gonna do, go play in the Acme Football League?

Pro football careers average four years in length. Players simply cannot afford to lose even a significant fraction of ONE season to a strike/lockout. They can stomp their feet all they want, but every game lost to a work action is a significant fraction of their careers gone forever.
