    Because Jim Dolan is his son and he wanted to take care of him without screwing up the family's bigger picture that badly.

    Remember that the Knicks is just one of many Cablevision holdings. It joins Radio City Music Hall, Paramount Theater and the New York Rangers under the Madison Square Garden umbrella. Then there is also Cablevision cable and a bunch of other businesses in a variety of industries.

    Even though Jim Dolan has totally screwed up the Knicks, it's peanuts compared to the successes of the rest of Daddy Dolan's holdings.

    When the Heinz family decided their idiot kid wasn't suited for the family business they sent him into politics, where he couldn't do any harm.

    Why couldn't Charles buy poor Jimmy a political career?

    No, he just insisted that many of them stay in their offices until he deigned to leave the premises.
