Good television show about life in the newsroom

Clint Eastwood did one a few years back that was highly entertaining, though it didn't strike me as being especially accurate about the newsroom environment. Then again, his character didn't spend much time in the office.

I think "Lou Grant" came as close as anything on TV to getting it right, vis a vis a newspaper newsroom. Sure, a little too idealistic; everybody talked like they'd just stepped out of a college classroom, and nobody was jaded. But they had the right idea.

I think it was a good snapshot of the newsroom environment of its era, when papers actually WERE hiring people right out of college.

The only thing that irked me about "The Paper" was that its final deadline was 9:30 p.m.
Not too good a sports section with that presstime.
Although, the way things are going, maybe they were ahead of their time.
    Anyone remember the backpage head?
    "Jumping for Joy."
One last thing, remember the morning budget meeting? The sports editor was wearing a football jersey and looking like a bum.
    Thanks, Ron.

That was good, but I liked Citizen Kane better.

Actually saw it for the first time in a film appreciation class in college. Damn, that was a good class.

There is another film that was very good with little fanfare.
Deadline Midnight from the early 60s.

  11. Totally agree with you here. Anytime a guy says "I've always wanted to say this..." it usually tells you that no one ever really says it.

I always thought that movie was excellent- and a very accurate portrayal.

I mean...who doesn't want to punch their female boss?! haha

And what columnist doesn't run the risk of being shot by a George Costanza type reader?

The show that followed the NY Daily News was called "Tabloid Wars" and was actually Broadcast on NBC owned cable station BRAVO.

I only saw a two episodes but it was not that bad of a reality show if you could call it that.

    Citizen Kane
    Deadline
    The Paper
    Tabloid Wars

    Thats my list.
I saw 20 min of journeyman so I can't comment on it.
