Fancy without costing an arm and a leg I'm not in a position to recommend.

Very nice and reasonably priced for NYC - Sarabeth's on the Upper West Side (W80th and Amsterdam Ave.). It's where my wife & I had our first date for their Sunday brunch and where I proposed over dinner four months later. http://www.sarabethswest.com/index.html

For a nice dinner or Sunday brunch in a casual restaurant go to Popover's Cafe (Amsterdam and W86th).

Another good restaurant in Manhattan on the Upper West Side is Citrus. Had a very enjoyable lunch there last year. Hard to describe their menu, but it's good...

If you want a great NYC Deli experience, get in a cab and go to Katz Deli at 2nd and Houston. Everything there is outstanding. If you like pastrami sandwiches or corned beef sandwiches or GREAT kosher dogs or a dozen other sandwich varieties, this is the place to go.

First thing you'll want to do is get away from the general Times Square area.

    Then check this board:

After you determine what kind of food you want and how much you're willing to spend, people will swamp you with suggestions.

Also, you can check this site: http://www.menupages.com/ where you can view menus and search by location, type of food, price range.

Smasher's right. Type of food you like and price constraints would make a recommendation much easier. There are a zillion restaurants in Manhattan.

PJ Clarkes and The Press Box both serve excellent hamburgers in Midtown.

Louis' Restaurant in the Bronx. A small family place, good food. Everyone minds his business. It's perfect. They got an old-fashion toilet – you know, the box, and... and... and... ah the chain-thing. We might be able to tape the gun behind it.

Oh wait, you probably don't want that...

(Actually, I would love to know if that really is/was a real place)

If you're in Times Square, you have to go to the ESPN Zone Restaurant. They, surprisingly to me, have excellent food.

Um, yea. Don't listen to this advice. If you're in NYC, don't eat at the ESPN Zone.
