The Mountain Dew goat ads are fall-om-my-ass funny.

Too many people are too outraged by too much shit that don't matter.

Why does it matter that the creator of the ad is black? It doesn't seem like consumers should have to investigate an ad's lineage in order to place its content in context. The imagery in the ad is incredibly racist. I'm shocked it got through, and I am pleased that it has been pulled.

To be racist is to say that the ad portrays blacks as inferior, in order to determine whether that was the intent shouldn't we look to the author to see if we can derive their intent?
The ad is not racist unless you are willing to say that the author/creator of the ad,as well as Mountain Dew or whoever owns that brand, believes in the inherent inferiority of 'blacks'.

The ad plays on prejudices perhaps even bigotry, but not racism. In this case prejudice is used to create humor and play off it. It's not the 'usual suspects' its the goat.

Re: Why does it matter that the creator of the ad is black? I guess it depends on whether you view communication by what the speaker intends or by what the audience perceives, or both. Far too many people today look only to their own impression, and not the reality the speaker/author, etc. actually intended. I doubt (though I suppose it is possible) that this black man who created the ad did so to denegrate black people.

Re: The imagery in the ad is incredibly racist. Why? Because characters in the ad, played by black actors (friends of the creator of the ad) were falsely accused by the white cop character of beating a white woman character?

Would anyone have a problem with this ad if the people in the lineup were white? If no, then I don't see why you should have a problem with the ad period.

Correct. Misuse of that word is pretty much epidemic these days.

Are white people incarcerated at huge rates in the United States? Are more white fathers in prison than married to their mothers? Are white people roundly stereotyped as criminals?

So we're criticizing the ad for it's accurate depiction of lineups? :D

And don't you think the ad might be taking a subtle jab at a criminal justice system's willingness to incarcerate so many black men? White woman assaulted, cops run out and put a bunch of black men in the lineup....hmmmm......
