so i'm checking jjobs and come across an ad for a managing editor of a small texas weekly. the pay was insulting enough at $26k-$28k until i see this little tidbit that i guess they're listing as a fringe benefit:

"We also have good office parties."

huh, so that's what we've all been missing out on as the industry continues to go down. are they serious? they're going to get a quality hire despite the lousy pay simply because they have good office parties.

    un-freaking-believable!

You obviously haven't seen the publisher's wife.

As opposed to "We have really awkward birthday/going-away/anniversary parties where everyone gathers in the break room Friday afternoons, stares at the floor while the boss spews three minutes of garbage and then flees back to their cubicles, cake in hand, faster than you can say 'happy birthday Iforgotyourname.' "

Not that I ever worked in offices like that.

$26-28k for a managing editor? Yeesh. I know it's a weekly, but that blows me away. Scaling that to what the people at my shop make, I'm guessing the reporters at this weekly make about $10,000 per year.

Launch party, I thought it said lunch party.

  9. Maybe you could just change the U into an A.
Then it would say lanch party, Kevin. Would it really be better if it said lanch party?

    Ohh, lunch party.
    It's supposed to say launch!
Okay, wow! Easy, booster seat, nobody cares about this party anyway.

So, either there is no drug test, or these people are liars.

The party doesn't start until the publisher yells...

    "$10,000 raise for everyone!"
